Acclaim for Requiem For The Captain
REQUIUM FOR THE CAPTAIN is a popourri of reading entertainment from this Northwest Author. It starts with the short novella which gives title to the book, a literary mystery rife with atmosphere and multi-layered characters. It is reminiscent of victorian literature in its retired captain, hard-working but selfish servants and a family secret involving a disappearance and, potentially, foul play. The short stories, ranging in scope from a gritty street scene (WITNESS) to several vignettes of family relationships, some ironic, some filled with emotion.
Between stories is a wide selection of poems dealing with with the human condition. COME LIVE WITH ME, MOON PATH VILLANELLE, and LOOK FOR BIRDS stand out.
One of the virtues of this book is not only that it acts as a Joanne Peterson sampler, but, its complete versatility. If you like this author, as I do, you can have the book handy and, depending upon time and mood, dip into it for a one page poem or two, an ironic short story, or a longer selection. More books like this should be written.
