Brilliantly delineating the inner lives of her characters, J. C. Peterson tells a story about parents and children and their inextricable relationships in this stunning new novel, her most accomplished yet. Moving, utterly satisfying –it is a work of dazzling inventiveness of plot and character we’ve come to expect from her books: Wetback, Joseph’s Journey, Sovereign Scepter, Mona’s Secret, and Requiem for The Captain

Acclaim for J. C. Peterson’s WHERE’S SANDRA?
It’s a book about family and the complicated relationships between parents and their adult children. This story focuses on a young woman named Sandra and her parents. While Sandra was in college, her parents forced her to make a decision that altered her entire life. We follow all three characters as they reinvent themselves and their relationships with each other. The author also gives us an unexpected twist that adds another layer to the story. Overall, this was a good YA story.

Sometimes a book is memorable for its characters: Sometimes for its plot. Sometimes for the descriptions. And, on occasion, you get all three. Where's Sandra? is just such a book. The characters are quirky - you've met them, you know them, they're in your family or among your friends. The plot has just enough suspense to keep the reader engaged. Peterson writes in the present tense, which draws the reader into the twists and turns. But, it's in the language that Peterson excels. Words like "obdurate, inchoate, ardor, castigate" target her audience.
"The sky opens forever -blue, blue, blue. Birds chirp, whistle and Trill. Two young people explore an unknowable world, walking trails bordered with wild roses and lupine. They trod a soft carpet of rotting leaves and pine needles, dotted with lady slipper, forget-me-not and violet until their path opens onto a cliff before it descends to the beach. There, they stand in awe, able to see miles of waterway stretching to distant islands...Sun pours like honey..."

Clever writing steadily draws you in . . . a book that will stay with you because it is so effective in showing how every action has a reaction - albeit in some cases not until years later.

J.C. Peterson has written an insightful story of the human experience in modern life. The frailties, strengths and inner search for meaning and fulfillment of three main characters are explored as they journey through the transitions of life's challenges. Peterson 's well written book draws you into caring about the characters and their discoveries of healing, compassion and how they deal with a harrowing situation of life and death.
I appreciated the beautiful descriptions of the environment as well as the emotional complexities of the inner lives of the family members who star at the center of Where's Sandra? The story reaches the heart and leaves a pearl of wisdom!
